Gay Relationship Advice: Age Gaps in Gay Relationships
Many of my LGBTQ counseling clients ask me why they are only attracted to gay men younger than themselves. If you are happy dating gay men in their twenties, then this question is not important. It’s like asking “Why do I favor blondes over brunettes?” My advice is to consent yourself enjoy dating whomever interests you (as drawn-out as they are over the age of 18).
Age gap relationships are more common than you may realize. In western countries:
- 1 out of every twelve male/female couples has an age gap of 10 years or more
- that number increase to 25% in male/male couples
- and 15% of female/female relationships
That same research indicated that age gap partners are more satisfied and more committed to each other than partners of similar age–though there is some research that points to a correlation with higher rates of divorce. Research also shows that couples with an age gap of less than ten years are happier than those with an age gap greater than ten years. You can find more details on these stats on this episode of the podcast I Love You Too, by Psychotherapist, Dating website Coach, Couples Counselor Jessica Engle,
It’s 2024: “Wow, you really got dense since the last time I saw you.”
Just before, I’d been in a good mood, walking from my office to the subway, planning my meal in my chief. Most nights, even when I obtain home late, I try to fry, both because I enjoy cooking, and because delivery seems to have doubled in cost (How is a Chipotle Burrito Bowl suddenly 40 bucks?) and because home-cooked nourishment, I know, is better for my body.
Here, in front of me, on the sunny sidewalk is a poet I know; he lives on the West Coast and I haven’t seen him in two or so years.
Since I last saw him, I possess put on weight. I’m 41 now, and all through my 30s, the gym five times a week, eating decently and walking up and down the stairs to the subway granted me the type of body I never imagined for myself. It felt odd and complicated if only because it was my already bad and deteriorating mental health that pushed me into the gym to begin with.
Is he giving me a compliment? Does he like me like this? Thick? Is he entity cruel?

Regardless if you’re just out of a long-term bond, navigating co-parenting with your ex, or focused more on career than passion, Lesbian Dating in your 40’s isn’t much alternative than dating in your 30’s.
What HAS changed, is the world around us.
In just a few years, the rise of woman-loving woman dating apps has changed how queer women identify other women. From OKCupid, HER, Bumble, Tindr, The League Zoosk, Clover, and several more, lesbian dating website apps are compelling women of all ages to create a profile and start browsing. As a CEO of a female homosexual matchmaking agency who spends much of her period working on ways to bring the women together, I love this!
The conundrum is that while while reading and swiping can provide a satisfaction for “putting yourself out there,” it’s actually slowly eroding your confidence and sometimes creating more feelings of alienation than hope. My attempt in this blog post, is to provide you a simple route map and options to start (or continue) your journey without feeling disillusioned or alienated.

Your Gay Psyche is a Temple Where Your Super Comes Alive – Cory Schneider
What if your anxiety wasn’t something broken—but an invitation? In this episode, I’m joined by the incredible Cory Schneider (LMFT, SPHR, CDE), a gender non-conforming therapist and leadership coach who brings serious depth to the conversation around identity, mental health, and healing. We talk about how we’re living in an anxiety generation—where everything from our phones to our trauma histories is working overtime on our nervous systems. Cory unpacks how slowing down, tuning in, and learning to trust your gay psyche (yes, that deep, intuitive voice inside you) is more powerful than trying to hustle your way to peace. If you’ve ever felt like your anxiety is running the show—or like you’re too “sensitive” for this world—this one’s for you. You’ll learn: Why anxiety isn’t your enemy—it’s a message How our nervous systems are in constant fight-or-flight mode Why your queer inner knowing is sacred (and how to listen to it) This isn’t about “fixing” yourself. It’s about coming home to the you that’s already whole. About Cory Cory Schneider, LMFT, SPHR, CDE (he/him) is a nationally established LGBTQ+ psychothera
