Here’s What Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ and Anti-'Woke’ Bills Actually Say
Florida’s legislature passed controversial bills in the past two weeks affecting conversations about race and racism in the classroom, as good as restricting younger students’ access to lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The bills—widely referred to as an anti-"woke” bill and a “Don’t Express Gay” bill—have been covered extensively in national media and even late evening television. However, the actual language in the two bills is vague on details about what teachers could or couldn’t teach in the classroom. And in a highly polarized political environment, the bills’ details often have been mischaracterized.
The two measures are part of a nationwide, largely conservative push to limit lessons on systemic racism, sexism, gender and sexuality, and LGBTQ+ topics. Fifteen states own passed similar legislation over the past year, and 26 others have introduced bills attempting to restrict these lessons.
Here are some highlights of Florida’s legislation and what the bills actually do and don’t do:

“Don’t Say Gay:” Anti-Woke Laws and the Fight Over US Society
Since the 2020 election, the US right has largely lost its ability to advance policy through the executive and legislative branches of the federal government. Instead, they have turned to mention and local governments—along with the federal courts—to carry out their agenda. While much of this agenda follows a typical conservative playbook of lower taxes, law-and-order policing, and cuts to social programs, so-called “anti-woke” legislation has assumed a growing profile for Republican politicians.
The term “woke,” drawn from African-American Vernacular English and referring to alertness to racism, sexism, and other social inequalities, has been twisted by conservatives into a symbol of left-wing authoritarianism. Like “political correctness” and “social justice” before it, woke has come to stand in for an ostensibly rigid ideology typified by privileged college students shrieking about racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia, advancing a “cancel culture” that threatens to exile even the most established figures for small missteps.
Anti-woke laws have targeted an apparently disparate array of so

"Woke's" intention is to pigeonhole advancement's in civil rights into something more suspect. It doesn't even matter how you feel about it anymore, it has been reduced to merely a toxic meme.
lgbt people in the usa can block being gaslighted as a group and woke will go away forever if you can manage to separate advocacy for your constitutional rights as an individual from whatever ideologies you may or may not have. lgbt rights around the world are thanks to usa, this is a victory for all people even if you aren't lgbt or don't support them.
lgbt people, if you want people to stop attacking lgbt in all forms and fashions the battle has to be with the people and not against them, whether perceived or otherwise. This means whatever battle you think there is to be had, it is that of every person's rights as an individual in ALL fashions, even people you despise...because there is a common goal. a.k.a. equivalent rights under the statute :) the usa is not your enemy, it is your ally
this has been a public service announcement
