Boys on Film 15: Period & Tied

Body Horror and Self Hatred

After watching ' Cruel Britannia ' in this collection of the questionable title of ' Boys on Film ' ( would Men on Film seem a bit more mature ? ) I watched these nine films and wondered exactly what the LGBT planet actually thinks about itself ? I also wondered why there was not one film from another country. It would own added to the diversity of homosexuality in other places. If I observe more in this collection perhaps I might come across some. ' Cruel Britannia ' lived up to its title and worth its 2 hours and a half but I did not expect this over 2 hours and a quarter onslaught of both body horror and self hatred. Only the film ' Dawn ' and to some extent ' Closets ' moved me while the repose left me cold in every sense of the word. The two overtly ' sexual ' films, ' Trouser Bar ' and ' G- o'clock ' seemed to wallow in banal soft porn. The observations were in essence that the prurient should watch beautiful men, and then have a collective kiss in the first film while in the second that GHB can be highly perilous. I will pass on.

To the person who wrote the "Child Abuse" review- You launch off trying to quote what was said in the documentary, and you failed miserably. Obviously you were only trying to hear and see what you wanted to, not what was actually said in the film, or you were just smooth out lying, or maybe a combo of both. That is what is sad, not this documentary. Being a gay parent is even tougher than it normally is. You have to deal with so many more obstacles. Think about it.

The kids seem a lot more grown up because they have to deal with grown up topics from an early age. And it seems to be going just fine! We can

    About the Program

    Minor

The Department of Gender and Women’s Studies applications an innovative interdisciplinary undergraduate minor program in Lesbian, Same-sex attracted, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) Studies. LGBT Studies works to establish sexuality as a pivotal category of assessment in the humanities and social sciences. It draws on disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, psychology, history, literature, and cultural studies in order to document the extent to which sexuality itself is a complex cultural and historical phenomenon that bears careful examination. Just as Women's Studies, for instance, is not only by, about, and for women, LGBT Studies is not only by, about, or for lesbian, homosexual, bisexual, or gender diverse people — it includes all humanity in its purview.

A large portion of the energy spent developing this field has been passionate to discovering (and recovering) the history, dynamics, and complexities of same-sex relationships. Both those relationships and their examination have had to combat a variety of delegitimizing forces originating from numerous social locations. The study of queer relationships within LGBT Studies has intended to provide lawfulness to those kinds of relation

How can a instinct of belonging be forged in a setting where one’s existence is forbidden? That is the question that LSE’s Dr Centner and his co-author Harvard’s Manoel Pereira Neto explore in their groundbreaking research into Dubai’s expatriate male lover men’s nightlife.

But it was not an easy topic to research. Dr Centner explains: “It's an illegal, or criminalised, identity and establish of behaviours and practices, so in a very general sense, it's a taboo. And taboo subjects are very often under-researched, sometimes because people possess a hard day gaining access, gaining that trust, but also because, even if people obtain that access, there could be significant repercussions for themselves as researchers, or for the people who are the research participants.

“As two queer researchers, we were able to enter the worlds of relatively privileged Western gay expatriates. Secrecy is often the norm, but the field was familiar to us, through previous visits and research projects.”

These were indeed ‘parties’ ...[but] not bars identified as male lover. Not a free venue’s webpage uses the word ‘gay’ or related euphemisms, nor do they hint at targeting
