Bernhard Eunom Philippi (1811-1852) (Fig. 1) was born in Berlin and as a young boy, moved with his family to Switzerland in 1818. Together with his brother Rudolph, he attended the school of Heinrich Pestalozzi in Yverdon, where he studied instinctive sciences and languages.
